Olivia: Four Weeks Old

Thursday, February 18, 2016
Dear Olivia, today you are four weeks old! When I look at you I can hardly believe that four weeks of your life have already passed us by. I say this a lot, and will probably say this for the rest of your life, simply because it is true. I have so many vivid memories of the final weeks of my pregnancy that led up to holding you in my arms for the first time. One thing is for sure, I can't imagine my life without you Livy Bean.

The first four weeks of your life have already afforded us so many milestones and memories with you, so here there are!

Clothes: You passed your birth weight of 8 pounds 1.8 ounces before your two week check up, and you haven't been weighed since. I would venture to say that you are well over 9 pounds now, as newborn clothes are pretty much almost a no-go for you sweet girl. The height of the newborn clothes are also a bit snug and you don't like that at all. 3 month clothing is still a bit big on you, mainly in the length department. You are a short babe, just like your daddy, big sister, and mommy. I've been trying to mix and match what I can to best fit you and your size as of now. I'm almost certain in the coming weeks newborn clothes will be packed away.

Health: You are such a healthy bean and I can't tell you how truly grateful and blessed we feel to have this route for you. Your newborn skin disappeared a week or so ago. No more dry, peely skin for you babe. Your skin color hasn't changed significantly since birth, neither have your eye color. We sort of unintentionally gave you your first bath the other night. We used your blooming flower bath in the kitchen sink. You looked so comfortable. We also use burt's bees products with you, same as your sister.

Feeding: Since the moment you were born you have been nursing like a champ. Seriously. You wake up at 730am (thanks to your big sister) and after being changed, you want to nurse. You will nurse sometimes up to three times in a hour. Sometimes you'll nurse for 10 minutes, other times you'll nurse for 20. I don't think you've ever nursed for longer than 30 minute at a time. You definitely deplete your mother of all her milk, and I know this is why I'm producing SO much! I've used my boppy nursing cover a few times when we've been out in public and you don't seem to mind it at all.

Sleep: Your day starts around 730am or 8am and you are awake for about an hour before going back to sleep. You'll wake again after an hour or two to be changed and to nurse and you will either stay awake for another hour or two, or immediately go back to sleep. At around 430pm you stay awake until you go to sleep at 730- 8pm. Sometimes you'll wake back up after 15 or 20 minutes and I nurse you back to sleep. You stay asleep solid from 9pm-12am. I change you, nurse you, and you fall back asleep. We usually wake up at 3-4 am to change and nurse you again. Sometimes we use the cloud b gentle giraffe or lamb (daddy got you this for Valentine's day) to help you doze off into a deep sleep.

Milestones: You can hold your head up for a little longer than 30 seconds. Daddy is the first one that called out how strong you are. You tolerate tummy time much better than I imagined in your newborn phase. When your big sister leans in to closely you can grab and hold onto strands of her hair. You are very alert and focus on various onjects for a good amount of time.

Things you like: You loved to sway with mom when she listens to music. Your favorites (and I'm guilty of this part) are Justin Beiber, sounds of rain, and Elvis Presley. You don't like to be worn if I can hold you, and I hold you pretty much every waking hour that I can. You like when daddy holds you in the evenings. He literally is the only person that can get you to calm down in the "witching hour" in the evening. You are so fascinated by your big sister. Whenever she's on your level you stare pretty intensely at her.

Four weeks old.
