Empowered women, empower women

My main focus for the last seven years has been caring for my home, my husband, and the beautiful little babies we make (I'm pretty sure all that is a given). But, I have found some super fun and convenient ways to sustain income at my own leisure (this blog being the primary way) and with that has come an entire realm of other women just like myself. Because there are so many of us, it is super easy to feel threatened or even question "how good" you are at something based off of the progression of the girl standing beside you. I've been there, admittedly I think we all have and its just such an ugly space to preserve. I do remember the day that something clicked for me though. I was just tapping into photography. I was so passionate about being intentional and collecting all of Ava's moments. I had the idea, like so many others, to try this gig out on a professional level and provide some of those same feelings for those looking to collect memories of their own families.

When I made that decision, I started to surround my virtual and personal space with those that left me feeling inspired. With other like-minded folks (in the same industry I was trying to make waves in) that left me feeling included. With that came this, "Her success is not my failure." LIFE. CHANGED. That idea was introduced into my world over three years ago (Thank you, Tash). Wow, right? That is when I allowed myself to truly believe that each of us is on our own journey and each of us gets to decide what that looks like, how far we'll go, how many breaks we will take, etc. Since that moment, I have been openly and honestly rallying the women to my right and the women to my left. I allow myself to help others when they need it (whether that be a blogging tip or a location spot) and community over competition is the constant in the back of my mind.

We need more of that in this world. We need more women to not only tap into their own and embrace all the awesome they have but to sprinkle all of that goodness onto the girl beside them. Empower your mama friends. Empower your working girlfriends. Empower someone. Can I challenge you for a minute? If you are reading this right now... scroll through your facebook, your Instagram, your text messages, your twitter - send THREE kick ass people in your tribe something uplifting right now ** AT THIS MOMENT ** and I guarantee you, you have just been a part of what has made someone's day that much better. It is truly that simple! Make it a habit, remind yourself that we are not in this alone and that there are so many rooting for your success and continued accomplishments. We most definitely rise when we uplift others. Such a good reminder, especially on those hard days when it seems like we just cannot get it right.

Which brings me to the purpose of this blog post. I can't tell you how excited I am to move back to the Pacific Northwest here, soon. I have already seen SO many new photographers, bloggers, and such talented women making their marks -I cannot wait to start networking with these beautiful people. Hold on tight guys, this winter is going to be one for the books!
