Happy Birthday, Tatum

To my series finale. Happy first birthday, tater tot.

Tatum girl. It's only been 365 days since you arrived and yet I can't seem to remember what life was like before you. In so many ways you've completed our family, healed our family, and filled void upon void of unknowns and "what ifs" we questioned before your existence was real rather than a dream. I wish I could take even a small fraction of credit for how incredible you are, but I cannot. April 6th, 2021 at 6:16 p.m. you came into this world so effortlessly and with such impeccable timing... to date, your delivery was the easiest I've had (by far) and it almost made me question whether or not I could do that again. From the moment I placed you on my chest you've been a mama's girl and I'm so thankful for all the days in which I've been able to nurse you, cuddle you, hold you, watch you grow, and keep you safe. You may be baby #4 but you certainly found ways to keep this family on their toes. For all the laughter you've created, milestones you've given us reason to cheer for, and every single tender moment and sweet song that has been made possible simply because you exist -- thank you, sweet girl. The best part of New York was always and will always be your safe arrival into this world.

The last month has really offered up some B-I-G changes... the first being that, you took several steps toward mommy. That was such an exciting moment for me. We all got to watch you walk to me and I enjoyed every single second of that! In addition to taking your first steps, you've started going to bed about an hour earlier, too. I love how our schedule and routine change based on your needs and I especially love organic movements in your schedule and routine. You've continuously decided that blueberries are no longer the superior fruit and you now find delight in raspberries, mangos, raspberries, and pineapples. Sometimes food has been hit or miss lately with how you choose to eat it. Since teething seems to be rearing its painful head, you've enjoyed sitting in my lap WHILE eating food off of your high chair. I'm not sure why you like to eat this way but if I am able to offer up even a little bit of comfort for you... I'm willing to do it.

You have always been a little suspect about giving kisses but lately, you can't seem to give enough of them -- to a select few in this family. They know who they are and they LOVE showing me all the Tatum kisses they can get in my view. Your laughter and your little groove to any beat are what have absolutely made my heart melt this last year with you. Your personality is emerging and you are sure to be HEARD no matter the circumstances. I admire that most about your strong and assertive personality. You are the baby of this family but you have taught this entire family more about ourselves in this last year than we'd ever learned before. Thank you for choosing us. Thank you for hanging in there, my perfect little girl.

Happy, happy birthday.

You are more loved than any one person could ever be loved.
