Disney On Ice: First Time Since 2017

Sunday, December 17, 2023

Liam and Tatum both experienced Disney on Ice for the first time.
This experience was super impromptu -- I mean so last minute I only knew about it because another PTO board member mentioned that it was happening this weekend. So of course I didn't want the kids to miss out on an opportunity to journey into the realms of enchantment. Naturally, this trip became a revival of magic that had been on pause since 2017. Our family stepped back into the world of Disney on Ice, a cherished tradition that had created memories with both Ava and Olivia. However, this time, it was not just about reliving the joy but about introducing Liam and Tatum to wonders that unfold on the frozen stage.
As a family, we danced through the wonder of Disney on Ice twice with Ava Bug and once with our Livy Bean. But for our Liam, the timing was not in our favor. Just as he was reaching the perfect age to be enchanted by the ice-skating characters, the world was struck by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the magic had to wait. With Tatum being the wide-eyed 2.5-year-old she is, she's now reached the sweet spot for this type of enchanting event and I was excited to finally take all of our kids. Disney may not be the talk of the town every day in our household, but there's something about the allure of Disney on Ice that transcends preferences. It's an event that brings a sprinkle of fairy dust to our December festivities, creating memories that linger long after the final curtain falls.

My excitement was filled to the absolute brim just because it was a new experience for both Liam and Tatum (and much overdue). Also, watching the excitement in your kids' eyes never gets old. From start to finish it was a decent show set for sure! We got into our seats right in the nick of time The joy that radiated from their faces as familiar characters glided gracefully on the ice was priceless. The energy in the arena, a sea of families immersed in the magic, became the backdrop for an unforgettable afternoon. This was a reminder that even now, after almost three full years, we are still somewhat catching up to all the family activities we put on hold.

When Liam saw the characters of Toy Story skate out - his eyes widened in amazement, and his giggles filled the air as Woody and Buzz twirled right in front of him. This was like a rite of passage into a world where dreams come alive on ice for our boy. Tatum was shy for a good majority of the first acts but when she saw Elsa, nothing was holding her back from belting out the jam, "Let It Go" in almost perfect sync.

As a parent, witnessing the joy reflected in their faces, the shared laughter, and the collective awe, was a gift in itself. Disney on Ice, with its timeless tales and captivating performances, managed to bridge the gap between generations, creating moments that will undoubtedly become part of our family lore. They hosted new and seasoned stories -- some that took Justin and me back to our younger years.

And so, with the echoes of familiar tunes and the sparkle of ice beneath our feet, we bid adieu to another December night, grateful for the magic that Disney on Ice brought into our lives once again. I know this was one for the books.
