Niagara Falls//Canada

I say this with zero exaggeration: I fell in love with a piece of New York. I didn't think that would ever be possible.

Our last BIG summer trip included a road trip out to Niagara Falls with a hotel stay in Canada overlooking the falls. I can honestly say, I am still relishing in the wonderful memories we made. Seeing the falls has been our NY bucket list since before we had all the kids. It's one of the world's greatest wonders and it certainly did not disappoint in person. We made nearly four and a half hour trip with the kids in toe just before 6am and the timing of it all wasn't bad. We stopped for breakfast, stretched our legs, and really made the most of the trip there. I was so surprised that I sat up front the entire car ride without Tatum needing me even once. Once we got to the falls, we decided to explore all of the New York fall activities prior to checking in at our hotel across the border.

The Maid of the Mist was hands down my absolute favorite activity that we did! Besides the stylish ponchos, my entire family was soaked from head to down with "mists" from the falls and we loved every minute of it. Our girls held on tight to the boat rails and got a front-seat view of everything. Liam had his award-winning smile on and won over the hearts of other boat goers. Tatum was such a trooper! Soaked and in an oversize poncho -- she had a blast! Looking over the falls from the observation deck wasn't too shabby, either. I've never been more stunned or moved by the natural beauty of something before... this was such a terrific experience.

I will say that Canada certainly has the better view of the falls though. Once we crossed the border (yay for our kids' first international visit), we checked into the hotel, we got dinner, and we walked the border that hugged the falls. It was so incredible! My non-picture-taking husband took so many selfies of a spot that photographed the falls just beautifully. We got a little nervous about Liam hanging on the rails but other than that, the walk was perfect! I was so surprised by how cool it felt for how warm it was outside. Truly amazing weather and that's coming from someone who doesn't care for summer all that much.

When we turned in for the night, we got to watch the falls illuminate SO many color patterns. Rainbows, greens, blues, and pinks -- WOW! The fireworks show was also pretty sweet, too. We chose to stay at the Hilton Embassy and the view from our floor was spectacular. Being able to cuddle my love and fall asleep to this view of the falls was one of my favorite life experiences to date. The next morning we got breakfast and headed to the Journey Behind the Falls. It was another amazing view of the falls from a different perspective than our boat ride but it certainly wasn't more enjoyable than the Maid of the Mist. I loved being able to stand behind the fall showering down, seeing the underground tunnels within the falls, and standing right beside the falls -- super close in range! Watching our kids read and learn about the events that have taken place here was an incredible feeling.

I'm so, so glad we didn't wait to take this trip with the kids and I am eagerly counting down until our next family getaway!
