Grateful for them.
One of the highlights of our experience in this region has been the holiday parade that happens in the city that Justin grew up in. It's fun, it's cold, and it's festive! Well, this year our Girl Scout Troop got to participate in the parade and it was an absolute blast! I am so proud of how energetic and engaged the girls were. It was a lot of showing up and waiting but I was so incredibly moved to see their families stand beside them to walk, wave, and hand out peppermint candy to the audience. The sense of community and pride we felt during the parade served as a solid reminder of the positive impact we can have when we work together towards a common goal. The memories we created during the parade fueled our enthusiasm for giving back and bonding as a troop. And with Thanksgiving approaching soon after, and really holding onto the spirit of togetherness and community from the parade, I felt inspired to organize a special event for my girls. Our first ever "Girl Scouts Giving" night.
To kick off our event, I decided to host a mock Thanksgiving spread. I wanted the girls to experience the joy of breaking bread together and sharing gratitude. With my apron on and excitement in the air, I cooked up a storm, preparing a feast fit for a troop of Girl Scouts. From my revered mac and cheese to Dutch apple pie, I packed everything necessary to celebrate and made sure to create a spread that was sure to leave the girls with full bellies and hearts!
To add a creative touch to our gathering, I arranged a turkey-themed craft activity. Each girl received a turkey photo stand holder kit, and the room quickly filled with laughter and artistic expression. As the girls focused on their crafts, they shared stories, and tips, and bonded over their shared experiences. The turkey photo holders turned out to be not just adorable decorations but also a tangible reminder of the fun and camaraderie they have always shared.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I wanted the girls to carry the essence of gratitude beyond our troop gathering. I prepared gratitude packets for each scout, containing materials for them to create personalized thank-you notes. These notes were meant to be shared with friends, family, or anyone they felt grateful for during the Thanksgiving break. I also informed them that completing and sharing these packets would earn them a special patch, adding an extra incentive for participation.
"Girl Scouts Giving" turned out to be a heartwarming and enriching experience for all of us. As we head into the Thanksgiving break, I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunity to lead such an incredible group of young women. The combination of volunteering, bonding, and creating lasting memories has truly made this season of giving one to remember for us all.
