Liam the Tiger: Our Cub Scout Adventure Begins

Saturday, February 22, 2025

We officially have three scouts in this house!
Our boy is officially a Cub Scout (Well, he's actually been a Cub Scout since January). Liam has joined as a Tiger (appropriate grade age level), and to say he’s excited would be an understatement. The moment he put on his uniform—the little neckerchief, the patches, the bright-eyed excitement on his face—it hit me just how big this moment is. Scouting is something that has connected fathers and sons for generations, and now, it’s something that Justin and Liam get to share, too. That bond, that experience, that time together—I know it’s going to mean so much for both of them. Watching Justin dive in to volunteer and step up in more official roles has been such an awesome experience from the outside looking in. Any time we commit to engaging and helping the activities our children participate in, it is always rewarding and so fulfilling.

What makes this even more special is that it’s not just for Liam and Justin—this is something our whole family can be part of. Scouting is built on learning, adventure, and community, and we love that it’s something we can all engage in together. Whether it’s helping with projects, cheering him on at events, or simply watching him grow through new experiences, this is a journey we are all so excited to be on with him.

One thing we learned? Boy Scouts of America is now Scouting of America. This change reflects something that, in our eyes, is really important—inclusion. It’s not just about boys anymore; it’s about any child who wants to be part of something bigger. And honestly? That doesn’t bother us one bit. If scouting can provide leadership, character-building, and hands-on experiences to more kids who are eager to learn, then that’s a win. Liam has already made a new friend in his Pack - Forest, and that alone just warms my heart. Watching my kids grow in Scouts is something I never had the opportunity to do as a child and neither did Justin. These organizations have the ability to spark passion, change our communities for the better, and engage our kids in meaningful and purpose based activities.

Liam has so much ahead of him—camping trips, learning new skills, earning achievements, building friendships, and growing in confidence. It’s going to be an adventure, and we are so ready to see where this journey takes him.

Go get 'em, Tiger!
