Ava Is Six

Friday, May 17, 2019

To my beautiful Ava, trying to write this with dry eyes is impossible.

I didn't even make it through the first two words. Today you are six years old and while I am so excited to celebrate you on your birthday, emotions are all over the place. I keep thinking about how we got here. How six years have passed us by already. My first memories of you arrived before you were even born. Sitting there in active labor for over 17 hours and wondering if I'd ever meet my little girl...even with an induction, you still arrived on your own time. And it was the perfect time. We tell everyone your birth story because it was something out of a movie. Daddy was overseas at the tail end of his deployment, waiting on a chopper that would pick him up and start his trek back home. Back to us. Our window was closing, we had thirty minutes to make it happen, and you did it. 5 pounds 11 ounces of perfection and I have never felt more proud in my entire life. You have changed the course of my life every moment since and I know your existence is why I strive to be a better me each and every single day.

This past year was filled with so much change for you. Leaving a home you loved in Texas, moving in the middle of your kindergarten year, and adjusting to the changes of new faces, new teachers, new friends, and a new school. Sweet girl, you blew us away. Your adaptability is extraordinary and you dove right into your new routine without missing a beat. I am so proud of you, Ava. You remain thoughtful, sweet, and caring. Your heart aches for the less fortunate. You light up a room and bring a smile to everyone you are with. You are so beautiful both inside and out and we love you so, so much.

Forever proud and thankful to be your mama.

Happy Birthday, Ava Bug. Our game changer.
