I totally spaced on writing this yesterday, but this post will reflect day five and day six of things I am thankful for. I am thankful for the depth the lord gave me. I am also thankful for our service members. There are so many hard moments in our lives, very few are comfortable with sharing, even with a trusted friend, let alone writing them on a very public blog. I am grateful that I can share my pain, my happiness, my frustrations, my insecurities, myself. I am not ashamed to talk about my marriage, my parenting, or the things that make me an imperfect human being. There is always more to people than what they are willing to share. I'm glad I know this, and I'm glad I like to connect on deeper levels. Because of my depth, I have made life long friends, I have made connections with so many beautiful people. There is more to me than what appears on the surface. I love that. I'm not a generic person. I thank the lord for that each and every day.
Our servicemen without a doubt are my heroes. They know their lives are at risk, but they do it anyway. What is more heroic than that? Each and everyday, I am reminded why I live in a country that allows me to be free. I am reminded, because of the soldier I married. I don't want to be all cheesy and cliche, but being able to see first hand what the families go through, and the soldier, gives you a different perspective. I am so proud and humbled to say that I have a military family. I am so proud and humbled to be apart of something so much bigger than myself. I am thankful every single moment of every day for what our military does.
November, I really love you. I shouldn't have to have reminders to be thankful, or reminders to be a better person, but I'm glad I have them. I don't want to ever be a selfish person. I don't want to be a materialistic, driven person. Reminders like thankful November, keep me grounded. I know I'll have my moments, but, I just want to be a good person. I want to always care about others, and I want to teach my daughter to care for others. It's so important to me. This post is getting sentimental, haha! I'll end things there. I've had a very emotional day, and I'm glad for it.
I'm going to wrap this up, Ava is calling for her mama! I will have to update you all soon. Good things are happening for my family!
Day 5 & 6
Sunday, May 5, 2013
Woke up this morning feeling especially grateful for this colorful and vibrant life the lord has blessed me with. I realize faith is not something I talk about often on my blog, that is going to change. For most of you that don't know me, I'm a Christian. Being so far away from home, means I am unable to attend the church I've gone to for over 10 years. Thank goodness for modern technology. I am able to sit in on live sermons every Sunday. Church is important to me, not because I feel like it makes me more of a Christian, but because there are times when I feel as if I'm losing my way. There are times when my faith is being challenged by the struggles life presents. There are moments when I need assurance, and church does wonders in that way. I wanted to find something I could share with my readers, something motivational. Sometimes all we need is something uplifting to inspire us. Jesus Christ uplifts me every single day. His word, his grace. I know that he will never fail me. So I thought it'd be fun to share daily devotions. I've been a fan of daily devotionals for over four years and more times than not they make a world of difference. If you find yourself loving daily devotionals and you'd like your own book, here's the link. Devotion today says: Humble Yourself !
Let this attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus. [Let Him be your example in humility]
Philippians 2:5
Humility comes from brokenness; brokenness hurts so bad, but it "hurts good," Brokenness comes when we learn that we are not hotshots after all. Brokenness comes when we judge others, and then realize that we do the same things they do. Brokenness comes when we think we are going to step out and do something great, and then fall flat on our face because we forgot to stay plugged in to God.
Brokenness comes when we give our opinion, knowing that we are absolutely right to the point of arguing about it, and then find that we are wrong. Brokenness is good for us. Brokenness leads to humility, and humility precedes honor.
There is a devotion for each day of the year, I haven't decide if I want to share daily, or just weekly. I hope all my readers were able to take something away from these empowering words. I know I'm starting my day right ! Happy Sunday everyone.
