My heart literally sank as the 8th approached this month, reminding me that my son would soon be one year old. We are less than thirty days out from celebrating this miracle child of ours and I just cannot believe it. My heels have been dug in deep this go round. I don't want the time to move so quickly because I know the close of his infancy is one that I will miss with all my heart. It is an absolute pleasure to watch your children grow and achieve milestones, but it is so heartbreaking in the same instance. Liam Arthur has been such a delight in our lives and we wake each morning with full hearts and wide smiles as we gleam at our boy with so much joy. Happy eleven months of life, Liam Lamb. You are so incredibly loved.
Clothes: Liam is currently in 18-month clothing. For most of his infancy, he would outgrow clothes so quickly but we've finally reached the size that we are pretty confident that he'll stay in for a while. Sleepers have been our go-to lately (for everything during the recent snow storms) and they don't deter him from his daily activities, even if the feet do have a little growing room. I do think by August he'll have graduated to 24-month clothing, but we will see.
Health: I am forever grateful for the continued good health my son is in. This past month Liam has been just as healthy as ever without a cold or sniffle in sight (knock on wood). It has been such an honor to have nursed this little boy for almost a full year. I am a firm believer that breast milk is just the holy grail of health for little ones.
Feeding: I have recently started venturing out to with offering new foods to our sweet boy. Liam is such a boob baby and normally nursing is all he wants. I did try offering eggs, strawberries, and nut free granola this past week and those were well received. It is absolutely important to me that we maintain healthy eating habits with all of the kids, including our youngest babe. I'm excited to be at this phase where the limitations are steadily decreasing and the window to try all the things is basically wide open.
Sleep: LIAM IS STILL AN AMAZING SLEEPER. That makes us three for three with amazing sleepers. Thank you sweet baby Jesus! He still sleeps through the night and he goes down for his naps as normal. This boy has been sleeping longer during car rides too. I mean, he always kind of has, but now it's just this instant sort of thing as soon as the car is moving. Car trips are pretty awesome now. Liam still sleeps best when he's cuddled with daddy or mommy and we love it.
Milestones: Liam is talking so much more. I heard him say "baby" twice in the last week. He jabbers on and on and we can't help but sit there and talk right back to him. I love watching the girls carry on a conversation as if they understand each thing he jabbers about. Our little climber is in full-blown climbing mode and I wouldn't be surprised if Liam takes his first steps soon. Lately, Liam dashes for the stairs and tries to climb them each chance he gets. I have a feeling that baby gates will soon be in our future. I ordered Liam's five-point harness Chicco seat this past weekend. That was hard. A nurse at the PEDS clinic made a comment about Liam's growth and how he's almost outgrown his seat... I honestly wanted to cry.
Things You Like: MUSIC. Hands down. Music is the one full proof way to get our son to soothe. He has a select playlist that he prefers and anything outside of that isn’t very helpful. Liam loves when his sisters are being silly. His baby laugh is everything and he smile will make your heart melt. He still loves to co-sleep with his mama and papa, showers with mama, and being baby worn ALL THE TIME. He is absolutely a mama’s boy and he will reach and grab for me whenever he’s not in my arms. Not much as changed with his lists of likes this past month and I’m totally okay with that.

My baby boy is in the double digits months of his infancy. Things just got real. Can you believe it? My third child is just two months away from celebrating his mega milestone (AKA 1st birthday). It’s been really hard, guys. I mean, really hard. I don’t know that I’ve actually said this before in a blog but Justin and I are so incredibly conflicted on adding more littles to our tribe of five - for so many reasons. If Liam is our last go-round with all of these “firsts” but lasts.. I just want to savor them for as long as I can… and ironically enough, time isn’t on our side. We are barely into 2019 and I feel like the year is already going by extremely fast. Normally the month of January at the start of a new year goes so dang slow. I stand corrected in 2019.
Clothes: We are still at a standstill since Liam’s activeness has increased. Our boy is in 18-24 month clothing. I prefer 18-month sleepers and 24 months for everything outside of pajamas. Because the weather has been so funky lately Liam is sporting everything from thick flannels to thin long sleeved t-shirts. I try to avoid jeans at all costs (not a friend to bebes with thick thighs) but he looks so darn cute in them! Finding boy clothing that I find cute hasn’t been nearly as difficult as I was told it would be. Its a nice change of scenery from the constant glitter and unicorn I’m accustomed to with my girls.
Health: Liam had his ten-month well baby the other day and he got a clean bill of health (and a shot :/). We love being back at the military hospital his older sister Olivia was born at. I was able to get us back on the same team both girls had the last time we were here and I cannot tell you what a sigh of relief that has been. After being seen by a non-military provider for the first nine months of his life, I am excited about this familiar change. Liam weighs 22.5 pounds and he is 27 inches long (shorter side like his daddy). He’s currently battling a cold his sister brought home from school (my poor baby) but other than that, he is one healthy looking boy. Oh, the PEDS doc did start Lamby on the lowest dose of cream for his eczema. I’m praying that it works (even though is skin has been nearly perfect in Washington) because I hate the thought of my little boy battling this for the rest of his life.
Feeding: I haven’t really been pushing solids at all lately. I mean, we offer Liam food when we eat but he still doesn’t really have a huge interest. Oh! We finally introduced those little puffs, crunchies, and yogurt melts. I don’t think he cares for the puffs much but the crunchies and yogurt melts seem to be a big hit. My boy usually nurses on demand (A LOT) just as he always has and the teething aspect becomes even more apparent with each tooth Liam cuts.
Milestones: Our boy is standing up and we are encouraging him to pull himself up on things like the couch, toddler chairs, toy bins, etc. Watching Liam become so fascinated with something and going after it is still my favorite thing ever. He’s waving, he’s dancing so much more, and he’s playing with his older sisters so well.
Things You Like: MUSIC. Hands down. Music is the one full proof way to get our son to soothe. He has a select playlist that he prefers and anything outside of that isn’t very helpful. Not much as changed with his lists of likes this past month and I’m totally okay with that.
Here’s to our sweet baby boy celebrating another month of life and here’s hoping that savoring all of his moments are more than enough to keep this mama dry-eyed until March!

I can’t decide what I’m more emotional about. The fact that my son is just a mere four months away from celebrating his first full year, or the fact that the next time I write a milestone blog post we will no longer live in the only home my son has ever known. When I think about how much Liam has grown I think about the house we brought him home to from the hospital. I think about those early newborn days and how I’d find myself sleeping in Justin’s “man cave” more often than not - baby boy, snuggled into my arms. It doesn’t seem possible that eight months have passed. It just doesn’t. I can recall almost every single detail of Liam’s arrival as if it were just yesterday, and yet here we are. This past month went by extremely quick. With Halloween, visits from his great gran, and new milestones met - we had a lot going on.
Clothes: Lamby has CHUNKY thighs (like his daddy) so finding pants to fit has become a hassle. In the summer months I was able to utilize those athletic looking shorts from carters… but we don’t have that luxury with these Washington winters. We need fleece, we need warm, we need thick.. which means, I’ll be going up another size to accommodate our growing boy. For the bulk of his clothing we are still in 12-18months, but I’ve started buying 18 month sleepers and 18-24 winter clothing lately.
Health: The eczema flair ups don’t really happen like I thought they would. He can go days without any sign of red irritated skin - but then he’ll have a day where he’s scratching at his skin and you see the red bumps along his neck, thigh, and little chunky leg. I feel so bad for my boy. I know I hate being itchy, so I cannot imagine how he feels. We use Aquaphor quite liberally and continue to with every diaper change. I’m hoping to actually utilize medication once he’s old enough.
Feeding: Our boy is still eating through his purees really well. I’ve started feeding him prunes between purees to prevent him from becoming constipated. He takes to purees much better than I expected, so I’ve slowed down on the baby led weaning. Especially because we’ll be road tripping next month. It is MUCH easier to pack purees for sure.
Sleep: Our boy is back on his normal sleep pattern (thank goodness). Liam takes about three naps during the day and finds himself down for bedtime at around 8pm? Maybe later depending on how active we are at putting him to sleep. He sleeps through the night perfectly and he’s been sleeping in until about the time daddy takes his big sister to school. I’m so thankful to have had three awesome sleepers! Thank you, Lamby!
Milestones: He’s so close to rocking! I can feel it. He will be crawling before we know it. Liam has been so active with his floor time these last few weeks. He loves grabbing anything in his reach and he gets SO upset when a toy falls or something is taken from him. His laughter is hysterical and watching him engage with his sisters is such a sight to see. He can sit up unassisted for quite some time now and if he sees something he wants, it usually ends up in his mouth once he reaches it.
Things You Like: MUSIC. Hands down. Music is the one full proof way to get our son to soothe. He has a select playlist that he prefers and anything outside of that isn’t very helpful. Liam LOVES peek-a-boo- and he absolutely loves when his sister’s get on the floor (his level) to play with him. He’s been showering with mama during bath time lately and he loves playing with the water and is completely fascinated as to why he cannot grab it. He loves his exersaucer much more than both of his sisters (though we don’t use it very often).
This little boy is just such a happy baby and we love it. Eight months of pure bliss with my sweet Liam Arthur and we just feel so blessed.
P.S. My mother-in-law mentioned (again) about the lack of birth announcements I sent out this time around. We’ve always sent them, this time… we just didn’t. BUT I did go ahead and make one for the sake of having something tangible other than social media. Here it is!

Our Livy Bean got her very first set of vaccinations today. It was really hard on me, yet again.. I actually left the room (just like I did when Ava got her vaccines). I hate hearing my babies cry, even if it's only momentarily. Yes, even if it's doing them more good than harm. Noone wants to hear their sweet baby cry. I'm thankful Justin is completely okay being in there with them. That man of mine, he's a God sent. I'm actually getting ahead of myself, so let me rewind. We got called back from the waiting room and like usual, Olivia's vitals were taken. Can you believe that my nine week old already weights 12 pounds? I could not believe it. She is such a healthy babe, couldn't be more blessed. We went back for her well baby and there were tears involved aside from the shots. The girls have thee best pediatrician, ever. Seriously. I told her about my mom passing and she just sat there and cried with me. She told me about her personal experiences with this type of grief and she also gave me resources to utilize for mental health. I ended up taking a postpartum test and i scored pretty high. She knew why and didn't give me a hard time about it. So long as I wasn't having thoughts of harming myself or the babies (which I could never imagine myself thinking, ever in life).
The doctor was beaming over Olivia's achievements so far. She can hold her head up so high for such a long time. She's got a great grip, great strength. She's staring into mirrors and following our voices. It is just amazing how much of this blows me away, even with baby # 2. I forgot to list a few of the things we have used with this baby girl that we did not use with Ava. One of those being: The Nose Frieda. Seriously, this thing is amazing. It sucks out so much mucus.. it's unreal. The appearance isn't exactly ideal, but it works so much better than a bulb ever could. We also have our sweet babe in disposable diapers. Her size and my cloth stash had some disagreements on absorbency in the first few weeks, and after TONS of saturated clothes, I decided to take a break. With everything I'm battling, I will definitely cave when it comes to waste and how to handle it. I do miss cloth diapering, but I do not miss the laundry, the leaky diapers, and the added task on my "to-do" list.
We did start using a double stroller in the last week.. let me just tell you, Chicco does NOT disappoint. Our double stroller is a BEAST and it makes for traveling in this rainy Washington weather a complete breeze. I no longer have to wake a sleeping baby from her carseat to babywear.. I can let my babe enjoy her sweet little slumber. I've also started taking a liking to woven wraps. They are completely sturdy, comfortable, and durable for me and the babe. Babywearing is without a doubt an essential part of motherhood for me. I think we are going to start wearing Ava bug again as well (she's been requesting it a bit lately).

I've heard this term thrown around quite a bit since I had Ava bug. I think it's more entertaining than anything, but I have found that this definition is fitting for my family, and our parenting styles. The term crunchy really just describes a parent who fosters a strong, positive bond with their children through natural living. What could be better than that? I feel all warm and fuzzy knowing I am a part of a parenting generation, where people are going back to the basics. What worked for us all those years ago, still work for us today. Parenting is getting thrown into our modern habits, and I honestly resent it a little bit. In an effort to make the time slow down, or at least capture the moments I have with my lover bug, I have booked a natural "lifestyle" photo session for Justin, Bug, and I. I want black and white (maybe color) photos of our baby wearing little Ava days. I want photos of the sun shining down on my little Princess, while I nurse her in the morning. I want photos that show how attached parenting methods have produced this little vibrant being I call my daughter. A lot of pressure on a photo, right? Hopefully, the photos turn out somewhat how I'm imaging them to be. We aren't doing these until we get settled in Washington, but I'm excited for them already.
Speaking of photos, I am already on the hunt for Ava's birthday decor. Seems like there is so much to do when planning a little's first Birthday. I know Ava's will be a bit more intense, because we will be near family and friends. I am ready for this challenge! I have already located the venue, and found the company to make the cake, smash cake, and cake pops. I settled on a theme this morning too. Don't ask me why Im making all these decisions four months in advance, I just cannot contain myself. My little girl is going to be one year old this year.
We took bug into pediatrics today. With the flu running rampid in central Texas we just wanted to make sure she was still healthy, and good to go. Ava now weighs 15 lbs and five ounces. She is also 24 and 3/4 inches long. WOW! Drastic change from the 5 lb 11 ounce baby I gave birth to. She is perfectly healthy, and is a bit more advanced for her age. I know Justin was feeling great after Ava's appointment today. The doctor was impressed with how comfortable Justin was with Ava. He knows how to do everything I do, and that impressed the doctor. She said a lot of dads aren't that comfortable with their babies, that they are all okay with mom running the show. She made a comment as we were leaving, she said we should have ten kids with how mellow and in sync we were. While the compliment was flattering, I don't see us ever having 10 children.
The movers come in just two days, and then in seven days, Ava will be on her first plane ride. This week is going to consist of a lot of packing, school work, and prepping for our big move. I hope everyone stays warm this week! It looks like a huge cold front is coming in towards the states that aren't so used to this freezing weather.

Still can't believe I'm writing this. I always compile a list of items we love or that Ava has started using each month. Honestly, this past month has gone by so quickly. Ava has started scooting, she's started to grab anything in sight, and she sits up for at least twenty seconds without any support. Ava talks so much more now than ever before. She can distinctly say, Ma, Da and Ahh-goo. When Justin or I say her name, she looks at us and smiles. Some of the things we have started using with her would be:
A mini mobile from tiny love. Ava loves this thing! She just recently became interested in playing with it. We take it with us on the go, it's a great way to keep her distracted.
This cool mist humidifier has been a god sent for us. This past month Ava got her first cold (she is actually in the mists of her second). Between boogies wipes, nasal drops, and this little baby, dealing with a sick infant has been easy.
We also love boogie wipes. It's such a better alternative for constantly wiping Bug's nose. She doesn't get any red irritation marks, it's soft, and we prefer unscented. I always have these in the diaper bag, and they are perfect for when she is sick.
We also started using sippy cups for juice. I love these! Ava bug is such a pro. She holds onto the handles perfectly, and she's got the sucking/lifting to drink notion in little to no time at all. I really don't see us using the bottle (ever again) with how great she is with a sippy.
I am so emotional with all of Bug's development milestones. She's right on track, and she's a healthy baby. That's really all we could ask for. this Wednesday our Princess has her six month well baby check up! I'm so excited to see how much she weighs.
Oh, before I forget...
Day 17- I am thankful for the home I live in. Not everyone has one, and I wish everyone did.
Day 18- I am thankful for the car I drive. It is a luxury to have an automobile. I'm thankful for it.

Today was a very hard day for me. Ava had her four month well baby appointment as well as shots. This isn't my first time dealing with shots, but this check up was WAY worse than the last one. The only upside was that my Princess is perfect and completely healthy. She weighs 11.11 ounces and she's 23 inches long. We filled out the motor skills for Ava's age group and she passed with flying colors. I didn't like the nurse that administered the shots today. If we happen to end up with her next time, I know I'll request a different nurse. She had ZERO bedside manner.. ironically she works with sweet, innocent babies. Ava's PED's doctor recognized some classic symptoms with Ava that lead us to believe she is ready for her first solid food. Rice cereal. If you've read my previous posts when I was pregnant, you know I am against trying this. (mainly due to arsenic blow outs) Looks like we will be trying it out. If it's the stepping stone Ava needs, I am willing to let my pride down and do what's best for my daughter. We are using Earth's Best organic rice cereal. USDA approved! I know a lot of people think "organic" is just a label, but genetically engineered ingredients are REAL and they can be harmful to your baby. I am EXCITED to be moving on to this next phase with Ava. Excited and freaking out! OMG!!! Ava just rolled over from her back to her tummy.Literally, just happened!! She has never done that before. They say rolling over in that direction doesn't happen until an infant is 5-6 months! Looks like we've got an early bloomer on our hands. Wow that just seriously made my entire day turn around! Watching my little girl emerge into this strong baby with personality is all kinds of emotional for me. I realize how quickly you can miss milestones when you don't dedicate yourselves to your children and their development. NOT THIS MOM. I have been involving myself in meaningless, trivial, never minds lately, and I'm done. I need to focus on my family, their growth, our happiness. That always comes first and should be the one thing my mind is consumed with. I've definitely got a lot of adjustments to make in my life. I always say I'm going to make a change, problem is, It's hard to go cold turkey. This weekend I am spending every waking moment with my family. The beach, a trip downtown, and a date night are on our agenda. I love being able to spend time with Justin and Ava as a family. I will never take our time for granted! Well that's all for now, I'm off to mush on my Princess!

Can't believe I'm already writing one of these so soon. It's insane how things can change so drastically in just four weeks. Ava has developed so much more, she's smiling ALL the time! She's talking to us more everyday, she sleeps in 5-6 hours stretches, I'm just floored with how quickly my little sprout is changing. I have fallen in love with a handful of different Ava essentials these last four weeks:
- Ava LOVES to be swaddled. I didn't think I'd prefer an actual swaddler over a receiving blanket, but I do. She doesn't get overheated, it's not too tight on her, and you can buy the swaddler in different sizes to better fit baby. I bought a couple of these off of amazon and they are great! I really don't know why we didn't use these from day one.
- My moby wrap! I absolutely love it! Justin and I have opted for attached parenting methods, this is just a part of it. It's great to be able to move around while having Ava be so content. She can hear my heartbeat, she's on my skin and more importantly she's happy. There are a dozen different types of holds you can do with this wrap and it's daddy friendly!
- Fisher price cradle and swing. This is personally not my favorite Ava essential, but Justin loves it. It does help stimulate her, that's a plus. We tried to use this when she was maybe 2 weeks old and she hated it. I think we tried again at 6 weeks and she seemed to be fond of it. I will say, I like how you can change which position they swing in, the mobile, and the different kinds of music options. She'll fall asleep in this swing and make cooing noises at the mobile. If we have to put her down for a split second, this is my go to.
- I finally started pumping this week. The medela single electric pump is the one I FINALLY ended up with. I LOVE IT. This is not the pump for women who plan on pumping ALL THE TIME. I'd say for pumping three or four times throughout the day, this pump is perfect. I bought medela storage containers for it and I've been filling them full and storing them for my freezer stash. I don't solely plan on bottle feeding Ava, In fact Justin mentioned last night, that he only wants to bottle feed while we are on the go.
OVERALL
I realized as Miss A continues to grow her needs are going to change. I think that's pretty much a given. My little girl is healthy and thriving. She had her well baby appointment on Thursday and she did better than her mama. I bawled my eyes out from before vaccinations were given and well after we were in the car. She cried for a couple minutes after the shots were given, but once she reached daddy's arms, she was fine. She got fussy again when we were waiting for her prescription of Tylenol, but I nursed her, and she was fine after that. She hasn't had any swelling, she hasn't cried since her shots were given, and she hasn't ran a fever. She is truly a champ! She's 9 lbs 6 oz and 21 inches long, definitely growing! Ava continues to be such an easy baby. No excessive crying, she sleeps so well, and she definitely knows mommy's and daddy's voices. Here lately I've had a couple women commend me on how "great of a mother I am" I've got to tell you it feels good, hearing things like that! Ava's my first baby and I was SO SO nervous about everything prior to her arrival. Right now, I feel very confident. I am finding out what kind of mother I am everyday and I'm proud of my findings.
Always keeping in mind one of my new life mantra's...
- I am not managing an inconvenience, I am raising a human being.
